Doberman Training Tips
Doberman Leo waits for a training reward.
The success of your Doberman training efforts will be determined by a few variables; leadership, supervision, timing, practice, and patience. However nothing will contribute as much to your success as consistency.
None of these Doberman training tips are as important as consistency.
Consistency is Key
Allow me to reiterate. The key to successful dog obedience training is consistency. Do the same thing each and every time. Enforce the same rules time after time, with no exceptions. Dogs adopt new behaviors from professional dog trainers after only a couple of lessons because professional dog trainers know the power of consistency.
Doberman training is give and take
Dobermans are among the smartest breeds of dog. You need to be a smart trainer. Watch and learn from your dog. Adopting the attitude that you will learn ‘how to train your dog’ from your dog will improve your relationship.
Attention and lack of attention
Dobermans are social animals. They can’t stand being ignored and will do anything for your attention. Lavish attention on your dog when he does something appropriate and ignore your dog when he does something in appropriate. Eventually your Doberman will only do good things.
Don’t discount for a puppy
Don’t allow your puppy to something you wouldn’t tolerate in a fully grown Doberman. Your puppy biting your feet is cute but if you let him get away with it now at what age do you take action to stop the behaviour? The answer is never tolerate it in the first place. A fully grown Doberman that is a little ‘bitey’ is a big problem.
Last but just as important as all of my Doberman training tips is…
Only give commands you can reinforce
Never give a Doberman pinscher a command that you think they will disobey and never give a command you can’t reinforce.
I hope these Doberman training tips help you as much as they have me.
